Their lovely celebration took place on a hill with natural beauty while incredible bougainvillea arrangements by Anais Décor made this setting even dreamier. From the intimate ceremony to the rustic style reception setup filled with lush garlands of roses in pastel hues, we cannot stop gushing over this wedding. “We are just so grateful for our time in Greece and to have been able to have such a magical wedding week. Our wedding day was filled with so much laughter, love and adventure.”, the beautiful bride shared with us and we loved every single moment including the touching ring blessing circle by their guests… just you wait until you see the photos!
Τhe bride shared with us: “We had a summer wedding in Nea Styra, Euboa, Greece. Craig and I met on an online dating site “OkCupid”. I was new to NYC so Craig brought me to a vegan brunch spot in Brooklyn called “Champs” and we walked around the Williamsburg waterfront. The proposal: I love surprises, and Craig is great at planning them. I had been away for a design job for a few weeks so Craig organized a weekend in upstate New York for us to have a mini vacation to relax. Little did I know he had other plans. I was awoken the morning we were leaving with a few gifts (which somehow didn’t seem out of the ordinary) and we set off on our road trip. We stopped along the way to do some hiking and had a lovely picnic. Craig had found a very hip, unpretentious, and gorgeous house surrounded by nature for us to stay at for the weekend. While I was upstairs taking a bath and lounging in the hammock, unknowingly to me, Craig was busy cooking an elaborate meal, and setting a romantic scene with candles everywhere and some very clever surprises. He proposed and we had a lovely low-key and relaxing weekend. We’ve been lucky enough to do some extensive and epic traveling together but it was so nice to have this moment be simple and honest.”
“Since we had never been to Greece and didn’t speak Greek, the planning was difficult in ways that it wouldn’t have been if we held our wedding in the United States. In a lot of ways, it meant we couldn’t be too controlling about things that we might have needlessly obsessed over. What we wanted most from a wedding was to spend quality time with our friends and family and to be inspired by the location. Because we were able to go to such a gorgeous location we wanted to keep things simple and not over complicate things. That said, I love flowers and I’m so glad we were able to incorporate some into our wedding and reception. I’m excited about arrangements that are organically asymmetrical, that are aromatic, and have a bit of wildness to them. I really wanted to work more bougainvilleas into the environment as I love the bold pop of color it provides against the water and greenery.
“I picked a dress that I thought would sculpturally work well with the landscape, that had an organically embroidered floral pattern and a little bit of sparkle. I’m a costume designer, so when I found a dress I liked, I was able to do some changes so that I would love it. I had the dress re-lined in a blush silk charmeuse, and added in a tulle layer with sparsely embroidered sequins so that the dress sparkled a bit when I walked, and it would breathe better than the original lining. I loved how fun and comfortable it was to wear.”
“I wanted to offset the bright pink bougainvilleas with soft blush pink and white peonies, small bits of yellow and greenery. Our florist was able to create this incredible floral garland with roses and greenery that draped over the long table for our dinner. There were small touches all over the villa. I loved my bouquet and the contrast it held to our mothers simple white peony bouquets and Craig’s flowers. I loved having all of our guests eating on one long table lit by candlelight, and was happy with the ease of the day. It was just enough to elevate the striking natural beauty of the landscape. We were mentally prepared for everything to fall through; for us to need to forage greenery, make our own food, play our own music, and just go with the flow. Luckily for us, and our guests, we were more than taken care of by the talented vendors we were so privileged to work with. They made our perfect day even more gorgeous.”
“During our ceremony, our guests did a ring blessing. They surrounded us in a circle and passed our η rings guest by guest, each giving us a piece of advice or a heartfelt thought. It was really special and meaningful to us.”
“I would have loved to have Love4weddings as a planning resource! My advice to a bride-to-be is: Focus on what is most important to you as a couple and spend your resources on that. It’s hard to not get caught up in all the small details, but years later you wont remember the misplaced decorations, or the out of place details; you will remember the feeling of great love surrounding you and the opportunity to celebrate that love and joy.”
We are just so grateful for our time in Greece and to have been able to have such a magical wedding week. Our small 27 person wedding was filled with so much laughter, love and adventure.”
