“Amalia’s roommate, Kat, introduced her to Sterling when he was in LA for a work project with Kat. They went to a happy hour in Hermosa Beach, CA and hit it off. Amalia and Sterling spent the rest of the weekend together hanging by the beach, eating their favorite foods, and spending time with Amalia’s friends. They stayed in touch throughout the summer but never met in person. Five months later, they both moved to New York City for work. Sterling took Amalia on a date the day she moved and… they have been together ever since!”
“Sterling and Amalia visited in July 2012 for vacation and fell in love with it. Santorini was the perfect place to get married: it was romantic, had beautiful beaches, unbelievable caldera views, and incredible food”
The romantic proposal story: “Sterling, Amalia, and the rest of her family all went over to Yiayia’s house in California for a cooking lesson during Christmas time. Yiayia made spanakopita, avogolemono, and other traditional Greek fare. After lunch, Sterling and Amalia went over to her Goddaughters house for more food and to spend time with more family. Finally, after a full day, they went home to get ready for Amalia’s Christmas present (at least that’s what Sterling had told her). Her hair in a ponytail and slightly annoyed that she needed a jacket for her present, Sterling and Amalia left the house. As they climbed into the waiting limo, Amalia still did not expect that Sterling was about to propose. Amalia continued to text her friend Julie about her bridesmaid dresses as Sterling poured champagne and pulled out chocolate covered strawberries. Shortly after, Sterling was on his knee and Amalia said I do! They went to Huntington Beach Harbor for a boat tour of the beautiful homes and their Christmas lights. After the cruise, Sterling and Amalia went back to Amalia’s home to celebrate with friends and family. Sterling’s parents had flown in for the occasion and met Amalia’s family members… “
Amalia mentioned about the coral wedding theme: “We picked coral for the bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen accents to complement the rich blue color of the Mediterranean sea”
“The best decision we made was to carry-on our wedding day attire on the plane. Our bags got lost for a couple days – If I did not carry-on my dress on I would have been very stressed! We honestly look back at our wedding and do not have any regrets about the decisions we made. Julia was able to execute on everything we asked her to…”
“Santorini is so beautiful that you don’t need much fluff or decor… We kept our decor and attire very simple and clean”
“I went to the Bridal Garden in New York City to find my dress. The Bridal Garden is a non-profit organization that re-sells donated dresses to benefit disadvantaged children. I tried on about twenty dresses before I found my dress. It was perfect – a vintage Priscilla of Boston dress that I could not get anywhere else (Priscilla of Boston closed in 2011). I loved everything from its simplicity to its color and fabric”
The best moment of the wedding for Amalia and Sterling: “Arriving at the cocktail hour after taking our couples portraits. The sun was setting, our family and friends were waiting for us with open arms, and everyone was in such a great mood!”
The bride’s advise: ” Plan early, stay calm, and not to sweat the small stuff! Also – ask for help if you need it!”
