Today we will travel to beautiful Folegandros where the gorgeous couple of today’s wedding tied the knot. They kept everything very simple because they didn’t want to overshadow the location. The ceremony had the most breathtaking view and it was beautifully decorated with eucalyptus. The deep blue sea and the clear sky made the perfect backdrop for romantic, gorgeous shots. After the ceremony, they celebrated their love with family and friends in a traditional restaurant which was adorned with wooden chairs, candles and greenery garlands. The bride shared with us: “We met through friends. Joel proposed the day after my 30th birthday. He told me to take my time coming home from work so that he could arrange my birthday present. When I arrived home, I saw flowers and a card. I opened the card and inside Joel had written out his proposal. When I finished reading, Joel was down on one knee. It was a beautiful and private moment just for us. The next day I had arranged a winery tour with a bunch of friends to celebrate my birthday. We surprised them all by announcing that we were engaged.”
“I had some real dramas with my wedding dress. I got very caught up in thinking I had to find ‘the perfect’ dress so I didn’t like anything I tried on and eventually decided to get something made. I found the dressmaking process quite stressful because I didn’t know what the end product would look like. About two weeks before we left for Greece I tried the dress on at a final fitting and I didn’t like it. After a small freak out and a few glasses of wine I ordered a Roksanda dress from Net-a-Porter which arrived a few days later and it ended up being the perfect dress for me.”
“The ceremony took place in Folegandros, Greece.”
“We had never been to Folegandros before, but we knew we wanted to get married in Greece. We looked at a lot of larger islands which were beautiful, but they didn’t have the traditional and intimate feel that we wanted. I read about Folegandros in a magazine one day and everything I read about it after that was overwhelmingly positive, so we went with it and it was amazing.”
“I sent a couple of pictures to our wedding planner, Anais at La Fete, of bouquets of greenery that I liked, and I didn’t think about it again until the wedding day. On the day, she had the perfect bouquet for me and my bridesmaid. It was mainly eucalyptus which is native to Australia so it was lovely to have a touch of home with me on the day.”
“Walking with our guests from our ceremony to dinner through busy Chora with traditional musicians was pretty surreal. Special mention has to go to our DJ George who was incredible on the night and kept the dance floor going until just before sunrise.”
“We really wanted to let the location speak for itself. The concept was very simple and rustic with lots of greenery.”
“Again, the wedding decoration was very simple because we didn’t want to overshadow the location. I think I sent one photo to Anais of a table setting with a grey linen tablecloth and some greenery down the center and our decoration on our wedding day was better than I had imagined.”
“I did a lot of online research in the lead up to our wedding and I often went to Chic and Stylish Weddings for inspiration.”
“I found our wedding planner Anais at La fete through Chic and Stylish Weddings. La fete had planned a wedding in Folegandros that was featured on the website. I contacted them straight away and from the beginning Anais and her team were excellent to deal with.”
My advice to a bride-to-be: “In the early stages write down a list of what you want your wedding to be. Include the type of food, the music, the number of guests, the overall vibe, everything you can. Then keep referring back to that list as you go through the wedding planning process. It’s easy to feel like Alice in Wonderland tumbling down the rabbit hole when you are planning a wedding because there is always a bigger and better (and more expensive) option that you could choose. Every time we thought about adding an extra option we found it really helpful to come back to our list to check whether that option matched up with what we originally wanted for the day.”
