The beautiful rustic wedding in Crete we are sharing today will mesmerize you! The lovely couple travelled all the way from Australia to have a gorgeous destination wedding in Crete, bride’s place of origin. The wedding took place at a beautiful estate, which was decorated with lovely flowers and rustic details such as canvas baskets, blocks of wood and wooden frames! You will absolutely love this wedding!
“We met at work. James was interviewing me for a job. He proposed while we were on summer holiday in Crete. He took me up to the fort at Aptera (a place very special to my family) and proposed at sunset”, the bride shared with us.
“Crete is where my family is from. I go there every year in the summer. As a young girl, I never really daydreamed about marriage, but I always knew that if/when I did get married, it would be in Crete! We also had a lot of people flying from all over the world to celebrate with us. We wanted them to experience a wonderful holiday!”
“My dress was in two pieces, a cropped lace top with thin satin straps and a soft champagne satin under the lace, and a tulle ivory full length skirt with satin waistband and small white buttons at the back. The bridesmaids wore beautiful lavender dresses from Dessy”.
“We got married at Ktima Roxani (Roxani Estate), just outside Armenoi. The ceremony was outside under the poplar trees”.
“The wedding had a rustic theme of lavender, olive leaf and burlap. We found inspiration and ideas on Pinterest.”
“My bouquet consisted of white hydrangea and lavender, baby’s breath, amaranthus and eucalyptus leaves, we live in Sydney and eucalyptus is very Australian”.
“The decorations were absolutely stunning, thanks to Roxani and Dimitri, the estate owners. Flowers of the same theme as my bouquet were everywhere. The estate was lit with candles and lanterns. Everything was rustic and presented in canvas baskets or on blocks of wood. Drinks were served in an old wheelbarrow and the seating plan was made from an old wooden window frame. They made us a gorgeous wooden arch to get married under, and surrounding the dance floor were fairy lights. We wanted the guests to enjoy Greek culture, so we had some fabulous Cretan dancers and live music, I entered the ceremony accompanied by a live music and we even had a donkey!”
“There are so many good moments: walking through our friends, just married, as they threw flower petal confetti and sang The Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’, the speeches, the ushers attempting Cretan dancing, lying with my husband at the top of the grounds at around 1 in the morning, watching everyone enjoying themselves, the list goes on. For me, personally, I have a moment I will always cherish. Just after the speeches, before the main meal and dancing, I had a quiet moment to breastfeed our 6-month-old son. I remember looking down at him, in my wedding dress, and realized what this was all about; my husband and I, sharing our love with family and friends, and starting our own new family together. It was beautiful.”
“For the bride, all the stress happens before the wedding. On your wedding day, relax, enjoy and take it all in. No one remembers or even notices the mistakes. We were also advised to take a moment for the two of us. Make sure you spend time with each other! If I can add one more piece of advice, it is eat! You are so caught up with adrenaline and socializing, it’s very easy to forget to eat.”
