Today we are travelling in Kefalonia where Hayley’s and Michael’s summer wedding took place! These two lovebirds chose to exchange their vows in an idyllic scenery full of greenery under a beautiful arch decorated with fresh flowers in white, pale pink and peach hues. The wedding reception was so romantic with olive branches combined with candles and rustic details which made this scenery even more dreamy. The bride was stunning in her mermaid wedding dress with lace details holding her lovely bridal bouquet with eucalyptus, peonies, roses and foliage. See all the unique moments of this beautiful couple through the following photos captured beautifully by Proper Photography!
The bride shared with us: “Michael’s proposal was perfect. One of our favourite parts of Kefalonia is Assos; we love walking right to the top of the castle ruins to soak up the gorgeous views. On the 13th of August 2017, we continued this annual tradition but this time it was much more special! Half way up the hill, Michael sat on the bench overlooking Assos and after we had sat there for a few minutes together, he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife! It was the most beautiful, special moment.”
“The ceremony took place In the gardens of our holiday villa: Villa Brio, overlooking the sea.”
“My bouquet was designed and made by Cleopatra’s fabulous florist who put together a selection of eucalyptus, peonies, roses and Greek foliage. It was gorgeous.”
“Kefalonia is a very special place for my family as we have holidayed there since I was very young and return every year. Kefalonia is such a stunning, tranquil place and the people there are so lovely. Kefalonia was our first holiday together as a couple back in 2015 and although Michael had never been before, he too fell in love with the island and it was clear that it would continue to be a very special place for us.”
“We wanted a very chilled wedding that reflected the feel of Kefalonia. Kefalonia is our happy place, where we feel calm, relaxed and happy – the exact vibe we wanted for our wedding. I wanted a very neutral feel for the wedding as I knew the setting and beauty of the island was all the décor we needed. Our colour scheme was pale sage greens, whites, creams and very pale pinks. We wanted our wedding to feel very personal and unique to us and that is why we were so lucky to have Cleopatra as our wedding planner – she made our dream wedding a perfect reality. No request was too big.”
“We wanted to get married by the sea and have our meal and party at our favourite beach bar, Ammos. Roula and her husband, the owners of Ammos, met with us on several occasions and completely went above and beyond to provide us with the most beautiful and perfect venue. It was the first time they had hosted over 100 guests for a sit down wedding meal and although I had an idea of how I wanted it all to look, I could never had anticipated just how perfect it was, yet it still had the chilled beach bar vibe that we loved.”
“My wedding dress was from a beautiful Wakefield Boutique: Hoops-A-Daisy. It was one of the first dresses I ever tried on and I fell in love with it instantly! I told myself I couldn’t have found it so quick, so I continued exploring dress shops with my mum until we both realised nothing was coming close to how I felt in the dress at Hoops-A-Daisy. It was an Allure fishtail dress with a beautiful long train and low back. It was a very pale blush colour with the most incredible detail.”
“Our reception decorations were very subtle but meaningful to us. We brought over handmade Yorkshire fudge from our favourite farm Muddfields in North Yorkshire, all individually wrapped in mini hessian sacks as favours for our guests. We wanted to maintain the simple, contemporary theme for our decorations, so our tables were decorated with Greek foliage and candles. All the wooden beams in Ammos were wrapped in fairy lights, which, when the sun started to go down, looked magical.”
“Our circular wedding arch, which depicted two wedding rings, was by far the showstopper; it was breath-taking. We had gypsophila on the chair ends to line the aisle and the floor was scattered with rose petals. The veranda was decorated with hanging roses which looked beautiful dangling in the wind.”
“We had a table of photos of our loved ones who could not be with us, along with an old wooden bucket which we used in lieu of a guestbook – we wanted our guests to give us a bucket list activity for us to complete in our lifetime together.”
“I can’t choose just one best moment as I have so many! Walking down the aisle with my dad was a very special moment for me. I also loved our time in Old Skala getting our photos taken, we laughed from start to finish as we walked up steep mountain sides just for the perfect shot! Sitting at our wedding table and feeling incredibly lucky to be surrounded by all our friends and family on such a special and perfect day is also another favourite memory. I could go on and on!”
Bride’s advice to a bride-to-be: “Most of us know how we want our special day to go and I would just say enjoy every minute of planning and making it perfect with your friends and family… they become great memories to look back on. Also, to soak up as much of the day as you possibly can… it goes so quick – enjoy every second.”
