The first time I laid my eyes on a Christos Costarellos wedding dress, it took just a few moments to become infatuated with his designs… wildly romantic, ethereal and so incredibly chic. Christos Costarellos wedding dresses combine elegance and refinement with a neo-romantic character, tastefully incorporating iconic vintage references and the timeless beauty of the past into the present. And… the most exciting news of all, Christos Costarellos was recently included and placed 3d in bridal genius Mark Ingram’s list of bridal designers to consider for your big day! It was such an honor and so exciting for me to spend the morning at the stylish atelier and find out a little bit more about the designer behind these incredible dresses!
When was the exact moment you knew you wanted to be a designer?
I was born and raised in a family that worked in the fashion industry (my mother was a seamstress and my father was a tailor)… the image of creating a clothing line came completely natural to me. To answer your question, I never really decided to get involved in fashion… fashion won me over.
In your opinion what is the style of the Greek bride?
A Greek woman today has a more powerful personality than ever before… knowledge of what to ask for and want… so when it comes to her wedding, she is definitely a bride with a refined aesthetic.
Please share your advice on how to find “the perfect wedding dress”
I honestly don’t believe that there is a “perfect wedding dress”… only “the” wedding dress for each woman and my advice would be that when the woman wearing the wedding dress feels confident and beautiful… then that is “the” wedding dress for her.
When you are designing a new collection, do you have a certain type of woman in mind?
I don’t have a particular type of woman in mind when I am designing, however in general my work combines the girly classicality of the past with the current femininity in a very aesthetic way. Hence, I am designing for a woman with a powerful personality that is not afraid to show it.
What inspires you?
The Greek scenery, history and the tradition of my country are the heart of every one of my collections in combination always with anything that can influence me on a daily basis… from a book… an exhibition or a trip… even during a cup of coffee in the streets of Plaka in Athens.
I am curious… if I were a bride-to-be… what wedding dress would you choose for me?
In my answer about the style of the Greek bride, I believe that I am describing a woman like you, so my answer has two parts: a) A wedding dress made with guipure lace and silk organtza with a vintage flair, exemplifying all the Grecian grace and b) a wedding dress made with French lace and silk tulle that will match the girly part of your personality.
