I am overly excite to share with all of you today the re-imagined wedding of Tamika, the founder and editor of Bajan Wed! The lovely Tamika is a teacher by day and wedding blogger by night who lives on the island of Barbados, in the Caribbean with her husband and daughter. Bajan Wed is a unique wedding blog which features elegant celebrations in the most romantic, tropical locations. The editorial style of the blog is driven by a few select and essential elements- breathtaking photography, sweet love stories and the dreamiest wedding inspiration we have seen!
From Tamika: As a huge fan of Love4Wed and it is such an honour and thrill to be with you here today! My husband and I recently celebrated six years of marriage so it’s been quite fun trying to reimagine our wedding (although if I really had a chance to go back in time, I wouldn’t change a thing; we loved our details and had the best time ever!). Anyway, wearing my editor’s hat for a bit, here’s what possibly could have been-
The wedding style
I am mostly drawn to an elegant, organic style. Picture an outdoor setting with lush greenery and natural, rough-hewn elements weaved into classic details. Maybe it’s the island girl in me but I love the way that touch of wild, earthiness can inject an element of spontaneity and romance into even the most predictable setting.
The color palette
I always joke about how boring I can be when it comes to color- most of the time, I prefer a rather subdued palette. For the type I wedding I have in mind, a neutral palette would be ideal, with pops of earthy green and a heavy dose of blush which is always so delicate and pretty.
The wedding dress and shoes
I adore all types of wedding dresses but for my body type, I would go with a mermaid silhouette. Probably a Monique Lhuillier wedding gown since her style is very feminine and romantic or I would go with a Lazaro, I find his designs captivating as they embody a bold sensuality and refined grace.
As for shoes, my friends tease me endlessly because I choose the most horrible styles for myself- simply because I go for comfort rather than style. For my wedding I was lucky enough to find a pair of shoes that were practical but still looked elegant. If I had to do it all over again, a pair of glittery Kate Spade shoes or sleek Jimmy Choo might be fun with a switch to a pretty pair of bridal sandals the moment I sat down!!
Ceremony location and venue
I love Nature so both the ceremony and reception (ideally the same venue) would be in a beautiful garden setting (which is essentially what I did for my own wedding).
Wedding Cake
In the Caribbean, our tradition is to have rum cake (so delicious!) for our weddings. As much as I love rum cake, instead of having that for all three of our single-tier cakes, it would have been nice to have at least one chocolate cake!!
Wedding Favors
Keepsakes are adorable but in our daily lives, we don’t use most of the knickknacks that we accumulate at weddings so I would prefer to give guests something edible, as we did for ours. Maybe cupcakes or a homemade treat!!
Entertainment
A great DJ. We had the best time ever at our wedding seeing everyone on the dance floor because our DJ was that good. A live band would have been a wonderful option as well! A few fun games might also be nice- especially to entertain guests when all of the wedding photos are being taken just for the reception start.
Honeymoon
It has always been a dream of ours to do tours through parts of Africa and Italy. A vacation taking in different cultures and gazing at beautiful scenery would be wonderful!
