This gorgeous couple’s elegant wedding with calla lilies was the epitome of utter sophistication. The handsome couple said I do in an outdoor ceremony at the Legislative Plaza in Nashville, a picturesque setting with timeless elements that created an amazing backdrop. Stephanie looked absolutely perfect in her Amsale wedding dress and Katie Painter Photography captured beautifully every single detail.
“We met in college at the University of Alabama, but did not start dating until we were both out of college… Will proposed on May 18th, 2014. His sister and brother had been in town for the weekend, and Sunday afternoon he suggested that we show his brother around downtown Nashville. Not realizing anything, we made our way to the walking bridge that overlooks downtown. He walked me to the edge, put his arm around me, and that is when I realized what was happening. At this point we both were extremely nervous With both of our hands shaking, Will got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!”
“My wedding dress is simplistic drama to it. While there are no stones or lace on it, it is beautiful. The style is fit to flare and the color is a white/ivory. The back has a sheer layover and a small bow at the small of the back. My veil brought the look together. It has a long train and the edges of the veil are 2 white lines. The mixture of the length and the style bring a vintage modern feel to the wedding look. I love my veil!”
“I would say our concept for the wedding was based off of a balance. When I envisioned what our wedding day would be like, I thought of a setting that would be beautiful and elegant, but also fun for our family and friends. Style wise, I will borrow the term my mother would use “lots of clean lines”. I do not love flower arrangements, so I chose to have calla lilies and candles”
“I think you could say I chose more of a lack of color for our wedding. I chose long black bridesmaid dresses that would contrast the light grey stone of the Plaza. The ceremony was filled with white drapery on a clear tent. The only true color was the green from the calla lilies, which I thought stood out next to my white dress and the black on the bridesmaid’s gowns and the men’s tuxes.”
“The best decision we made was to have Will’s grandfather, Jim Oakley, Officiate. Will is his oldest grandson, and I actually knew Mr. Jim Oakley before I ever knew Will. Jim had been a head of the College of Communication and Information Science at the University of Alabama (and is in the Hall of Fame), which is the school I graduated from at Alabama. Jim is such a leader in the Oakley family; it meant so much to us that he agreed to marry us! “
“I believe the best moment of our wedding was when we said our vows. We both were holding back tears, and I was blow away by what Will said to me. I do not think any of our guests expected us to write our own vows, it was a special moment.”
“The reception had a bit more color with gold accented place settings and tea lights. The tables were a mixture of tall calla lilies and floating candles in different sized vases”
The bride’s advise: “I would say that you should pick a couple things you really want, and be flexible about the rest. (ex: location vs. caterer). Also, you will be surprisingly calm on your wedding day, because you are just too excited to marry the man of your dreams”
