Ithaki Weddings shared with us: «Ithaca is a small Greek island in the Ionian Sea, an ideal destination for any couple looking to host their wedding on an island full of natural charm that remains totally un-spoilt. The style of this shoot would be described as a luxe boho, the venue lends itself to a boho style of wedding, being a small olive grove which leads to a beautiful beach. Taking inspiration from the naturalness of the location and the islands scenery we created a ceremony area by using the venues central pale stone circular base surrounded by olive trees offering natural shade. Instead of using a traditional arch for the ceremony our florist made a garland of mixed wild island greenery threaded through with locally sourced bougainvillea, which we then suspended from one of the shady olive trees and coiled onto the pale stone, creating a circle of eternity, within which our couple would pledge their vows. Voile draped from the branches and gently moving with the breeze complemented the garland, the aisle lined with lanterns completed our ceremony area. Chairs for guests we socially distanced in a semi-circle around the garland».
«The bridal bouquet reflected our garland with the use of mixed wild greenery, bougainvillea and white roses with its’ fullness perfecting the fitted bridal gown with delicate lace detailing. Our hair stylist swept our brides hair into a beautifully braided half up do, leaving her natural curls to cascade down her back. Make-up was kept light and natural suiting our bride’s freshness and in keeping with the backdrop. Grecian styled gold jewellery completed and set off the look. For our groom we opted for a lightweight suit of natural tones, combined with a crisp white shirt, blue bow tie and brown suede shoes a smart yet casual relaxed look fitting in with the location»
«Our table set up under the olive trees was in keeping with the naturalness of our surroundings, laid with a simple white table cloth, a neutral voile runner, textured glass vases featuring our choice of flowers for the day, blue geometric patterned plates added colour along with the blue patterned cork stopper wedding favours, textured wine glasses, individual menus, table numbers along with place cards in beautiful calligraphy script gave the table a luxe feel. On the sweet table, set up under an olive tree decorated with fairy lights and trailing ribbons gently moving with the breeze, we had an array of delicious deconstructed desserts. The wedding stationery was the epitome of modern romance, fusing modern with classic charm, the muted neutral tones, sans-serif typeface and fine hand calligraphy created at contemporary traditional feel which worked well with the colour palette of the rest of the wedding styling».
«The key elements to creating this look involved working with the natural outdoor surroundings of the venue, which was a small olive grove leading down to a beach, with the whole area surrounded by olive trees, greenery and mountains, using the colours of the immediate environment as an extension of the naturalness of the venue, but adding some bright colours to lift and bring to life the colour palette. The colour palette was kept to neutral tones in keeping with the surroundings of the venue but adding pops of blue and pink to inject a little colour lifting and enhancing the neutrals, our colour palette included crisp whites – voiles, table cloths and napkins, a neutral coloured voile table runner, bold blue/white geometric patterned plates, we also incorporated texture with our glassware and vases. A neutral colour palate harmonises well with a natural environment such as ours, this colour palette requires some pops of colour to lift and enhance the neutral shades, otherwise the overall effect can merge and be lost within the surroundings. Our florist created a 10m garland made up of locally sourced wild greenery, olive along with fuchsia and dark pink bougainvillea. The garland we suspended from our central olive tree and curled into a circle on the pale stone floor. Small bouquets using the same mix were made for the bride and grooms chair backs and for the floral decoration for our table setting. The bridal bouquet again was created using the locally sourced wild greenery, bougainvillea to which we added simple white roses and gypsophilia, the bouquet shape was kept long and full secured together by natural twine/string and olive green ribbon. The 10m garland was the key feature to our ceremony area creating an eternal circle for our couple to exchange their vows within. Using locally sourced greenery, olive and bougainvillea also meant that a large percentage of our floral design was sustainable. Using the right tones and amounts of neutrals to complement and harmonise with the surroundings adding a pop of colour to each main element of the decor to lift and enhance the neutral colour palette. Thinking about the venue and working with its’ naturalness, keeping the décor to a level where it doesn’t take centre stage from the surroundings but enhances what is naturally there».
