Photographer Nikos Psathoyiannakis captured every aspect of the day in the loveliest way…
See for yourself… A destination wedding you are going to adore!
Maria shared with us the story she and Konstantinos first met: “At some point in my life I decided to attend yoga classes and I found a really nice studio in the centre of Athens, close to my work place. The owner of the studio was Konstantinos! He was my instructor which I really admired and appreciated and then… nature took its course, with a magical way I must say!
The island wedding in Greece on the gorgeous island of Kea, started with a party at Koundouraki beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
“Kea is a beautiful island that we visited frequently over the weekends and we always had a great time! This place is quite enchanting! Therefore when we decided to get married, the island was the first location that came to our minds!”
“The truth is… I never really had any thoughts about my wedding dress and I was kind of anxious about it when I started looking for one. In the end I visited six different fashion houses and I tried forty different dresses! When I visited Konstantinos Melis By Laskos and saw my wedding dress, it was love at first sight! I fell in love with it, the moment I wore it! I was excited because I never really had seen before such a beautiful dress. I felt confident and it was very comfortable in any possible way on me! Being comfortable in it was very important and I felt as if the dress was tailored especially for me!”
This is how Konstantinos proposed to Maria: “It was the second day of the year and we had arranged to go out for dinner! While we were in the car, Konstantinos told me: let’s just go for a walk in Acropolis before we head for dinner, it is kind of early for it! I said yes why not and never really suspected anything! During our walk he started talking about our relationship and what I really meant to him … and without me realizing, we had reached the place were we had our first kiss! He then showed me the ring and asked me to marry him! It was such a beautiful and touching moment!”
The wedding ceremony took place at the colorful church of St. Anargyroi, in the Vourkari area of Kea.
The most beautiful moment of their wedding according to Maria was: “It may sound trivial, but when I arrived at the church and I saw an emotional Konstantinos, I really felt touched! Also, throughout the ceremony our emotions were very intense… we were really feeling every moment of the ceremony in the presence of our beloved friends and family!”
“Although the decoration was simple without any exaggerations I really did pay attention to the details! First of all, for flowers I chose to have chamomile and lavender! Chamomile reminds me of my childhood and lavender is a aromatic plant that we really love having around with Konstantinos… not to mention how beautiful it smells!”
“At the church, I put pillows and burlap sacks embroidered with lace and filled with lavender and chamomile. I also had a beautiful table with jars filled with lemonade and many different sweets including caramelized almonds and small bites of sesami bars.”
“I wanted to have a summer wedding that would be casual and not pretentious and to have its own style! But most important I wanted a wedding that would express both me and Konstantinos! In the beginning I wanted to have a wedding planner but then I decided that I would like to do everything by myself and enjoy the process. Of course I had the help of my beloved sister and she was by my side all the way! However, I do have to say that although I knew exatcy what I wanted, when I met Christina and Sofia from Myconian, they really did help complete my dream!
“The advise I wanted to give to any bride-to-be is, they really should have their wedding exactly the way they imagine it with their husbands and not comprimise their dream by what others want. Also they should start their preparations as early as possible in order to enjoy every bit of the process without any stress! And finally before going to the church, have a glass of champagne, take some time to relax, wear your best smile that makes you pretty and enjoy the day without any stress, because it goes by fast and what’s left of it, are the true and amazing feelings for you to remember.”
“At the reception party, I had a very beautiful wooden “wishing table” with big jars filled with chamomile, small sacks with koufeta in various flavors of sweets, wooden crates filled with favors, sweets and gifts for our guests. Additionally, small candles were placed around the area and really created a dreamy atmosphere. The fact that the venue was stunning meant that I didn’t have to decorate too much!”
“There were two important decisions that I made when organizing the wedding. The first one was to organize it by myself and I did it methodically, step by step without any stress and in the end, I really enjoyed every part of it and I was completely satisfied with the result. The second one was that Konstantinos and I decided not to have any tables at the reception party. Our guests were dancing till the morning, the waiters were serving dishes from a great selection of different food and for thosee that wanted to sit, there was a wooden deck with big pillows and low-based tables!”
