This lovely destination wedding is so fiercely beautiful that it has us dreaming of a vacation on the gorgeous Santorini island. With boho chic (I just love the bride’s floral crown!) and DYI details this Greek island wedding captured by Theodoros Chliapas will certainly brighten your day!
“We met 12 years ago in High School when I was an exchange student in the US. We didn’t start dating until 5 years later when I came back for vacation and fell in love dancing the night away at a friends wedding. That was the start of the 7 years of long distance that was to come…”, the bride shared with us.
“We were on vacation on a tiny island of India when Chris wanted to go for a walk by the beach. As we were walking under the full moon, he stopped, knelt down and asked me to be his forever. As I said yes, he got up, spun me around and yelled “we are engaged!!!”. We laughed, we cried – it was magical”.
“Chris being American and me being German, it would have been a destination wedding for either part of our families anyway. We wanted to find a spot that would be uniquely beautiful and well worth the travel for our friends and family. As we stumbled upon Santorini during our research we fell in love immediately and knew that this would be it…”
“At the time we were planing the wedding I was living in Bangladesh where I was lucky to find an amazing seamstress who brought my design alive. I picked out my Chantilly lace on a trip to Singapore and found my silk through the help of a friend. I absolutely love how it turned out!”
“As Santorini is so beautiful itself, we didn’t want to go overboard with decorations. We kept it simple, did a lot of things ourselves and added a touch of our travels such as mother of pearl coasters we brought from Myanmar. It was very “us”…”
“The style of the wedding was a bit bohemian, DIY and the colors of the islands…”
“Chris says that the best moment of our wedding was “watching me walk down the isle”… I say walking down the aisle, with everyone I care about there being emotional with us and most definitely seeing the happiness on his face”
“I wanted my bridal bouquet to look handpicked. It consisted mainly out of peonies, lisianthus, astible and eucalytpus. For price reasons I first chose roses over peonies, but as the flowers were delivered our amazing florist said that after meeting me, she knew I would have to have peonies. Such a sweet surprise.”
“We held the ceremony at Cavo Ventus. We chose it for its privacy, its beauty and the stunning view. It had our guests swooned the moment they stepped in!”
“Not hiring a wedding planner was probably the best decision. Interacting and getting to know all our lovely vendors was such an important part. And the money we saved we used towards a catamaran trip around the island the day before the wedding. This way we got to spend more time with the people we love and it gave everyone the opportunity to get to know each other before the actual celebrations. It was perfect and set the mood for what was to come… We really loved everything about our wedding and there is nothing we would have changed!”
